How We Got Started

Backyard Fresh Farms was started in 2016 as the result of a question: “How can we make vertical farming a realistic food production method?” By that time, many pioneering vertical farms had failed to adequately bring down the cost of production to build a sustainable company.

The common problem seemed to revolve around massive labor and energy costs. We took time to deeply understand what issues had caused other companies to fail, and we learned from their mistakes.

The result is our vision of a radically different approach to vertical farming. This vision already has carried us through multiple iterations of our patent-pending technology, resulting in industry-leading yields and efficiency.

What We’ve Done So Far

In just two years, we have developed and proven our proprietary approach to farming. We have demonstrated that vertical farms can produce some of the best produce in the world for even less than field farming.

Backyard Fresh Farms has grown and sold-out three tons of produce in 12 months and enjoys rave reviews from chefs and their patrons.
